Kapu Creations is a small local business located here in Waianae that makes Koa jewelry and art. In 2015, Lance sustained two life changing injuries that required surgery that ended his 25-year career as an Ironworker. His income was dramatically cut to one third of what he was bringing in with financial obligations that were well above that. He struggled to keep his head above water for two years before he had the idea to start a small business to supplement the income that was lost. It all started with a block of wood – he began creating his Fish Hook designs; each piece he creates has a unique style. In 2017, Kapu Creations was born.
“Once I had a few items created, I went to the Maili Beach Park to set up my tent to sell my products. This is where I met Carol Pelekai with the Waianae Economic Development Council (WEDC). Through this wonderful organization, I was introduced into the craft fair world and the makekes (marketplaces) and in July 2018, I was invited by the Waianae Economic Development Council to have my work showcased in Japan, along with seven other Waianae vendors, at the Tokyo International Gift show.”
In the same year, Lance had the amazing opportunity and blessing to be able to market his handmade products at the “Home Grown Store” in the Pearlridge Mall. Sales in the store with Kapu Creations has been very steady. In 2019, he expanded to two more locations, the “I Mana Ka Oi’wi Store” in the Windward Mall and at Ben Franklin Store in Pearl City Locker #12. Lance has great appreciation and shared that he gives “a huge Mahalo Nui Loa to the employees of all these locations for the hard work they do every day for us.”
Congratulations to Lance Victor and Kapu Creations; we look forward to many new creations and continued success in your business! To contact Lance email kapucreations@gmail.com or call 778-8245
