Holoholo Tackle

Waianae residents Kanoa & Ku’uipo Saturno, a husband-and-wife duo are leveraging both their roots and work experience to operate the only dedicated fishing store on the Waianae Coast.  Kanoa, raised in Makaha with a passion for fishing and Ku’uipo with work experience in retail management and hospitality – together seized an opportunity in spring 2021 to pursue a dream of opening a fishing shop.  

It’s been a collective effort from the start with family weighing in on the business name, logo design and other start up activities. The initial focus has been stocking extensive fishing supplies and equipment for shoreline lawai’a (fishing person) and getting the word out to the community that they’re open for business.  Whether you fish regularly or as a hobby, Holoholo Tackle offers competitive pricing and a convenient location for anyone fishing along the Waianae Coast.

Supporting local business and community is a priority for Holoholo Tackle. Whenever possible they buy from Hawaii-based suppliers, and especially want to partner with Waianae Coast businesses.  Their team of 4 employees are all young adults from the Waianae Coast.  Holoholo Tackle is also partnering with DLNR and other organizations to launch their keiki fishing programs next spring.  Plans are coming together to offer age-appropriate instruction with fishing and water safety to keiki as part of after school and recreational programs.   

Kanoa’s role is the product offering and organization of the ultra-efficient retail space. Ku’uipo’s role is the accounting and systems.  The couple uses technology to manage all aspects of their business, Square point of sale for inventory management and team member scheduling, Altress for payroll processing which syncs up with Square.  Opening a Google business account was one of the most beneficial steps in setting up their business as it has made them more visible on Google searches and other mapping applications.  The Holoholo Tackle team have thought of everything including offering a Loyalty program, that allows customers the ability to earn discounts on future purchases.
